Cloud computing is currently one of the most frequently occurring IT topics. It attracts the attention of businesses from nearly every sector. Pumacy now offers one of the fist cloud-based platforms for knowledge management. The joint research project Vertumnus already uses the platform to manage knowledge and information across the organisation.

Bernburg, 24 June 2011 – Cloud computing and the growing software-as-a-service (SaaS) market have become prevailing trends in the IT industry. Pumacy now provides the knowledge management platform KMmaster as a SaaS solution. Customers can decide whether to purchase a KMmaster software licence or choose one of two cloud-based solution packages.

The first package provides a tailored offer to companies which intend to outsource the knowledge management platform KMmaster. For example, the BMBF-funded research project Vertumnus (www.vertumnus-projekt.de) uses the knowledge management and collaboration platform KMmaster. Pumacy hosts and runs the software during the project. Initial investments are not needed.

Ben Meyer-Schwickerath, research associate at the International Performance Research Institute (IPRI) gGmbH and manager of the Vertumnus research project, describes the benefits of the SaaS solution: „The outsourcing of the knowledge and collaboration platform brings a range of benefits. We avoid additional investments and staff resources for the administration of the software. This way we can fully concentrate on the exchange of files and experiences throughout the organisation.“

The second solution package is currently being developed in the research project „KnowldgeCloud“. With the so called KMcloud Pumacy intends to provide the first public cloud solution for process-related and structured knowledge management based on the KMmaster. The payment is due monthly dependent upon the number of registered users. The prototype phase of KMcloud is expected to start within a few weeks. Dirk Langenberg, project engineer for process management at Pumacy, says: „Our customers can use this knowledge management service for a desired period of time. This may be especially useful for limited-term projects or small businesses which save money and time for deploying server-based services“.
